NEW Restaurant coming to Avila Beach
You may have noticed some construction right next to the Inn at Avila Beach on the corner of San Luis St & Front St. It’s a brand new restaurant called Ocean Grill Avila Beach and is set to open in July of this year. The restaurant will be a perfect addition to the Avila Beach family and will focus on using the fresh & local ingredients that we are surrounded by on the Central Coast. Locals might also recognize the name of the GM, Dan Harper. He was the founder-operator of the successful restaurant Cabo San Luis in SLO until a fire burned it down a few years ago. He’s back in the restaurant game along with Executive Chef Michael Reyes. Chef Reyes is a Cal Poly alumni, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York and has worked in many popular restaurants. Construction is well underway! Get ready for the grand opening of Ocean Grill Avila Beach
At the corner of Front and San Luis Streets, construction has begun for Ocean Grill Avila Beach. The collaborative restaurant venture brings together entrepreneurs Forster-Gill with Dan Harper, founder-operator of Cabo San Luis, and Executive Chef Michael Reyes.
Set to open in July, the new restaurant will offer expansive ocean views with both indoor and outdoor dining experiences and feature Coastal California Cuisine relying heavily on local farms, fisheries and wines.
San Luis Obispo native Dan Harper will act as General Manager. Dan is excited to combine his past restaurant experience with Executive Chef Michael Reyes. The open air restaurant design and prime waterfront location, together with Chef Michael Reyes’ amazing talents are bound to take local dining to new heights. In addition to the epicurean delights Chef Michael brings, Dan Harper adds “I am exited to have the ‘Cabo Taco’ available once again. The fish tacos will taste even better relaxing on the patio with awesome ocean views.”
Executive Chef Michael Reyes is a Cal Poly alumni and graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. He’s returning to the area most recently from the Executive Chef position at Splashes of Laguna Beach. Michael’s wide culinary experience includes cooking at 3 Michelin starred restaurants including, The French Laundry in Napa Valley, Gotham Bar and Grill in New York and the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills.
Chef Michael states, “I am so excited with our new venture and the opportunity to create our menu from quality fresh ingredients available on the central coast. Our intention is to make Ocean Grill Avila Beach a very special place for locals and visitors as well. This is what I love to do and the central coast is where I want to be.”
In Phase 2 of construction, the restaurant will add outdoor seating on raised decks with expansive ocean views and outdoor fireplaces.
